Just a Quick web update

Just to keep everybody in the loop regarding web launch. As you will know our hosts had a major server crash when we launched our website on Wednesday. We’re still trying to determine exactly why that was the case when both sites had been running concurrently for 6 weeks but discussions are taking place.

We’re still not totally sure how much / if any material we have lost andwhat’s retrievable. We have backups but even they are proving a little problematic at the moment. In short its been a less than brilliant week watching a lot of hard work go up in smoke before your very eyes ;-)

We are working on getting the new site back and running, on a different host, possibly in with just the basics for a couple of days to ensure that we don’t just end up blowing another gasket so if you see anything strange with the web addresses from reds.co.uk don’t be alarmed it’s just me tinkering.

In the mean time the old site will continue to function and thankfully it’s a quieter time of year.

Hope that makes some sense.

Paul

  • New site hiccup

Well as you can see we’re still on the old version of the site after a database collapse due to demand at midday. Fret not, our hosting provider is working on the prob and we’ll be sorted soon.

The unveiling of the new shirt will still take place at 3pm (on this version of the site) assuming we have no further issues.

It is important to stress (on the back of several comments elsewhere) that this is beyond the club’s control and as of 11.59am this morning thing’s were fine and the site had been tested extensively for the past 6 weeks, including by several fans, it’s not like we just flicked a switch and hoped for the best. There is unfortunately little that can be done about the server taking a simultaneous whack by a large number of visitors and to a certain extent we rely on our hosts to be able to cope.

Our database server is actually located in Greenwich and fixing things is not as simple as some people would have you believe when we are reliant on others.

It’s not the end of the world and thankfully we’re still up and running this way at least.

If anybody has any queries or comments they would like to make to me directly I can be contacted directly on paul.mcnally@reds.co.uk as ever and I’ll be happy to discuss/explain things further.

It would be great if as many supporters as possible could be there be meet him on arrival and show their support.

For those of you who can’t make tonight Steve will resume his walk tomorrow leaving the Willows at 1pm (just after the Academy game against West Tigers) tomorrow, so please show your support and drop some cash in the collection bucket.
